Zwart Huis will present three contemporary Belgian artists at Art Antwerp: Guy Slabbinck, Peter Lagast and Colin Waeghe. Guy Slabbinck (b. 1979) is a painter and filmmaker who is inspired by masters such as Rubens and Delacroix. Slabbinck reinterprets themes of mythology, colonial history and spirituality, creating a new visual language in his search for artistic identity. His paintings are richly layered, emotional, and often serve as commentaries on the role of the artist in modern society. Peter Lagast (b. 1972) blends painting and collage, often reworking existing images such as postcards and record sleeves. Through his playful and layered approach, Lagast explores themes of identity, place, and art history. His works evoke the fragmented, fast-paced nature of modern visual culture, merging art-historical references with elements from daily life. Colin Waeghe (b. 1980) is a socially engaged artist who channels personal and political themes into his impressionistic paintings. His works are marked by dynamic brushstrokes and vibrant colours that blur the boundaries between memory, observation, and media influence.
