At Art Antwerp 2024, Galeria Presença presents a group show with several artists, each of them exploring human nature and societal interactions through their art. The practice of Jiôn Kiim (b. 1981, Busan) encompasses various media with drawing at its core. The vivid colours of her brush create marks or signs which oscillate between language and abstraction. Diogo Nogueira’s (b. 1999, Porto) work presents figures in moments of celebration, adoration and protest. By referencing mythological symbols, animals, humans and natural elements merge into a ‘carnival’ where social norms dissolve. With a technique of over-layering acrylics and bright colours, Pedro Gomes (b. 1972, Mozambique) depicts buildings and architectural projects through their negative spaces. The works problematise the representation of architecture and emphasise the difficulty of understanding an image of a city map or an exhibition space. Lastly, works by Isaque Pinheiro (b. 1972, Lisbon) will be on view, who is mostly known for his sculptures in marble and cement. The artist is concerned with both the social and material issues of contemporary society.
