“The Seduction of Destruction”, the title of the booth project, refers to a common subject in the work of three gallery artists: Joost Pauwaert, Charlotte Vandenbroucke and Loïc Van Zeebroek. Joost Pauwaert (b. 1985) thematizes the destruction process itself. His works bear witness to a boyish and romantic interest in experimentation and destruction, while also having something ominous about them. Charlotte Vandenbroucke (b. 1993) creates pictorial spaces of seductive emptiness. She works with subtle gradients and uncommon surfaces, exploring a lightness and darkness (of being). Loïc Van Zeebroek’s (b. 1994) paintings question the construction and destruction of the pictorial image. In the historically charged medium of painting he manages, through a careful form of elimination, to create spaces for contemplation. Romantic landscape paintings are stripped from the initial teleology and become spaces for reflection and introspection.
