At Art Antwerp 2024, Galerie La Forest Divonne will present four artists: two sculptors and two painters. On view will be Gerard Kuijper’s ‘Dancing Stones’: heavy rocks defying gravity, seemingly floating or ‘dancing’ on metal bars. The sculptures hint at Belgian Surrealism and reveal the unique interaction between the two materials. Tinka Pittoors works with fragile ceramics, a medium in which she expresses her fantasy world in her extravagant visual language. Guy de Malherbe’s paintings show his fascination for rocks, whilst also drawing a line between Kuijper’s and Pittoors’ worlds, where flora, fauna and minerals co-exist. In a more abstract way, Jeff Kowatch’s paintings – filled with floating shapes – echo both Kuijpers’ balancing rocks, and Pittoors’ fascinating use of colour. La Forest Divonne will further present several wood sculptures by Christian Renonciat, master of the ‘trompe-l’oeil’. His work is yet another hint at surrealism in a year that marks the 100th anniversary of André Breton’s manifesto.
